What Fiction do you believe about Virtual Assistants? I am sure you have heard all the myths and misconceptions about working with a Virtual Assistant. Those fictions are keeping you from your next great hire for your business! We are going to bust these 5 Fictions: working with a Virtual Assistant.

Working with a Virtual Assistant can help you advance your business. Despite the fiction, you may have heard, Virtual Assistants can be extremely helpful. Here are 5 fictions: working with a Virtual assistant.

5 Fictions Holding you back from working with a Virtual Assistant

Fiction #1 All Virtual Assistants are the same.

One Fiction you may believe is that all Virtual Assistants do the same work. Virtual Assistants are not all created equally. That is not to say that one VA is BETTER than the next. They are just different.

VAs can do a variety of tasks. Some do General administrative tasks, and some are more specialized in what they can do. All types of Virtual Assistants can be a great asset to you and your business.

The tasks done by a Virtual Assistant are a wide spectrum of responsibilities. Many VAs spend a lot of time learning a specialized service. Services that you may not want to spend the time learning to do. Services that can help you make great strides forward in your business.

When hiring, don’t let the fiction that they are the same and offer all the same things affect your decision. There is a Virtual Assistant who is perfect for your needs.

Fiction #2 You have to hire a Virtual Assistant Full Time

Fiction number 2 is about how much work you have to offer your Virtual Assistant.

There are different amounts of time that a VA can work. Depending on the Virtual Assistant, you may buy a package of hours. The work you want to be completed gets done in that time. Meanwhile, some Virtual Assistants work by the hour.

One of the best parts about hiring a Virtual Assistant is the flexibility with hours. You do not have to hire them for a full 40 hours a week if you only have 10 hours of work to offer them. You have the ability to find a Virtual Assistant that fits your needs.

When you are hiring a Virtual Assistant, it is up to you to find one that fits you and your business. It is complete fiction that you need to somehow find 40 hours of work for them to do a week.

Fiction #3 Virtual Assistants are only good for Administration work

Third Fiction: All Virtual Assistants can really only help with general administrative tasks.

This one is a doozy! There are many Virtual Assistants that pride themselves on their specialized services. These specialized services take a lot of time and effort to master. High-demand services they have mastered and want to be able to put in place for their clients.

While many Virtual Assistants do great General Admin work it isn’t every VA’s cup of tea. The thing is, if a VA doesn’t enjoy doing a task, they won’t perform it with the same passion.

If you are hiring a Virtual Assistant, take the time to understand what you are looking for. Take the time to find a VA that can perform those tasks.

Virtual Assistants have much more to offer than the same thing as the last VA. Fiction that we are all the same is unrealistic.

Fiction #4 Virtual Assistants are temporary

Next Fiction is that Virtual Assistants will only work for you for a short time.

Virtual Assistants can work for you for as long or as short of time as you need them. Most contracts will require at least a month of work but some VAs work on a project basis.

Keeping a contract with a Virtual Assistant for an extended period of time is not uncommon. Some Virtual Assistants work with the same clients for years. This is something that a VA would never turn down.

The amount of time you keep a VA depends on a few factors. Is it a good fit for both parties involved? Is the work getting done? Is the work helping with what you are trying to accomplish?

Don’t let this fiction about temporary VAs make you shy away from the idea of hiring someone to help you out

Fiction #5 Virtual Assistants are more expensive.

Our last Fiction is about money. $$$

Hiring a Virtual Assistant can be a little spendy at first. In the beginning, the initial expense might seem like a lot. However, it is worth it.

There is a difference between hiring a Virtual Assistant and a full-time employee. When you contract a VA, it is for a set number of hours or certain tasks. When you hire a full-time employee, you have that employee for 40 hours and give them work to do for that time.

Another reason why a VA is more cost-efficient is they have a dedicated workspace already. When hiring a full-time employee, you may have to provide them with a space to work in. That is another expense for your business.

Last but not least, benefits. A lot of time when you have a full-time employee, they would like to have health insurance and PTO. Freelance VAs don’t require these things from you.

This Fiction is one of the big ones. A lot of business owners are hesitant to take on a VA because of the cost. Don’t let the money factor be what’s holding you back from gaining a great VA. In the end, it is a more cost-effective way to hire.

Conclusion

These are only 5 fictions about working with a Virtual Assistant. I’m sure you have other things holding you back from getting started with a Virtual Assistant. I hope this list helps to give you more confidence to make the decision to get the VA of your dreams to help you grow your business.
