It’s my 1-year anniversary! Welcome to a celebration of resilience, triumphs, and the sweet taste of success! As I sit down to reflect on the incredible journey of the past 12 months, I can hardly believe it’s been a year since I embarked on the thrilling adventure of starting my own business. Today, I’m excited to share with you the highs, the lows, and the valuable lessons learned along the way. So, grab a cup of coffee and join me as I take you through the rollercoaster ride of my first year in business.
The Early Struggles:
I began my business last year when I was struggling with my position at Noodles & Company. I was overwhelmed and stressed out all the time. Turning my business into a reality came with its fair share of challenges. In the beginning, I continued to work full-time at Noodles and I worked part-time at a brewery. All while I was trying to build a business that would eventually be my only job.
Balancing my time was something I had to master immediately. There were a lot of nights I was on my computer and “watching” TV with my boyfriend. I admit he probably was not getting the best of me in that season. But he was very understanding, and he knew I was working towards something I was passionate about.
Learning from Setbacks:
The path to success is rarely a straight line, and setbacks are inevitable. I encountered my fair share. Including so much imposter syndrome. But in the spirit of entrepreneurship, each setback became a steppingstone to improvement. Embracing failure as a friend, I learned to pivot, adapt, and evolve. Every stumble was an opportunity to refine my business strategy and emerge stronger. I don’t know if there would be a 1-year anniversary if I hadn’t overcome so many setbacks.
Celebrating the Wins:
Along the way, I started to experience small wins. I was applying for lots of jobs online. Getting an interview for a general virtual assistant position was a win in my book. However, I never actually got any of those jobs. There were just too many applicants to stand out against.
At that point, I decided to take a different approach. That was when I entered the world of networking. Turns out it was the best decision I had ever made. People hire people and by getting to know some of the small business owners around town I was gaining more traction.
Choosing to niche down a bit. I was no longer a general virtual assistant. Helping businesses with their marketing efforts was what I wanted to do more than anything. This was also a game-changer for me.
Landing the first major client and receiving positive customer feedback was like rays of sunshine breaking through the clouds. Celebrating these wins, no matter how modest, fueled my motivation and reminded me of the impact of hard work and perseverance.
Building a Support System:
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of a strong support system. Whether it was friends, family, mentors, or fellow entrepreneurs, having a network to lean on during tough times was a game-changer. Sharing experiences, seeking advice, and learning from others’ successes and failures provided me with the guidance and encouragement needed to push forward. It was also important to me to be a useful connection for other people. I am excited to celebrate my 1-year anniversary with all my new connections!
Looking Ahead:
As I celebrate this significant milestone, I’m filled with gratitude for the lessons, the growth, and the opportunities that the first year of my business has brought. Looking ahead, I am excited about the possibilities and challenges that the future holds. To those who dream of starting their own business, let this be a testament that with passion, perseverance, and a resilient spirit, anything is possible.
So, here’s to the dreamers, the doers, and the relentless optimists who dare to turn their visions into reality. Whether you’re just starting or well into your entrepreneurial journey, remember that the road may be tough, but the destination is worth every effort. Cheers to one year in business, and here’s to many more years of growth, learning, and success!
